KEY POINTS:
A two-month-old baby who has been fighting for her life in Auckland's Starship Hospital after suffering head injuries has died.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Lynch said Tahini Mahomed died at 5am today.
A post-mortem would be conducted tomorrow and results of that would determine the direction of the police investigation.
A team of 12 detectives was investigating how Tahini received the head injuries. Police have interviewed her 29-year-old father and 24-year-old mother.
Her two-year-old sister was taken into the care of Child, Youth and Family.
"Everyone spoken to so far on the enquiry has been co-operating," Mr Lynch said.
"Due to the time of the year slow progress is expected, with a number of persons police need to speak to away on holiday."
