A baby has been stillborn after the child's mother was in a head-on crash.
The 26-year-old woman, who was nine months pregnant, was moderately injured when the car she was driving and another vehicle collided on the corner of Ashley Gorge and German roads in rural Canterbury about midday on Monday, Fairfax reported.
The woman was taken to Christchurch Hospital by helicopter. The child was stillborn on Tuesday.
"Sadly, she has lost her baby," Canterbury Police rural area commander Inspector Peter Cooper said.
However it's yet to be confirmed whether the baby's death was due to the crash or another medical issue, he said.
