KEY POINTS:
It's been a tough few years for Louise Nicholas, but finally she has reason to celebrate.
The 39-year-old gave birth to a new son last week and typically it was a real battle.
But these days Nicholas is well used to things not coming easy.
"This [the pregnancy] wasn't meant to happen in the first place, so when I found out I was pregnant it was all a bit of a surprise," she told the Herald on Sunday.
Weighing in at 3.9kg, Luke James Nicholas announced his arrival into the world on June 1 after a difficult five-hour induced labour.
"He was a lot bigger than I thought he'd be, but once he was out I forgot all about how difficult the delivery was... "
Nicholas and her husband, Ross, already have three daughters, aged 12 to 18 - and they're pretty sure Luke will be their last.
"He's an absolute blessing, he really is, especially after everything we have been through in the past few years," Nicholas said.
For the past three years Nicholas has endured the media spotlight after making rape allegations in 2004 against Assistant Police Commissioner Clint Rickards and former policemen Brad Shipton and Bob Schollum.
After a high-profile trial last year, the three were acquitted. She said being a new mum was a bit of a shock to the system, but things were a lot easier this time round, thanks to all the help she was getting from her husband and three daughters.
