A woman convicted for trying to snatch a baby from a Christchurch Hospital will face the judge who sentenced her after failing to complete her community work.
Rachel Marie French, 22, appeared in Chirstchurch District Court today charged with breaching the 250-hour community work sentence she received in June last year for kidnapping the two-day-old child from St George's Hospital.
She appeared without a lawyer, telling Judge Gary MacAskill she had an anxiety disorder that prevented her from undertaking the community work, the Christchurch Court News website reported.
Judge MacAskill said he was concerned she was trying to evade her sentence.
He ordered she be sentenced by Judge Raoul Neave, who sentenced her on the kidnapping charge in June last year, on August 2.
He suggested she appear with a lawyer as the charge was reasonably serious.
It was the second time French has been convicted of breaching her sentence, after she was given more time and had her conviction discharged in January.
