A 15-month-old baby girl police held fears for is safe but the hunt goes on for the father who absconded with her.
Detective Glenda Barnaby said Raymond Kenny Anderson today handed over his daughter to family members in Te Kuiti.
He had taken the child from Palmerston North on Wednesday and police were worried he was struggling to care for her.
He is separated from the child's mother and took her without permission.
Police are still looking for Anderson who is believed to be driving a 1995 Mazda 626 Sedan GLXE, coloured blue and registered TH 1216.
He is described as a 24-year-old Maori of solid build and 186cm tall.
He is wearing a black hoodie with gold pictures on it.
