KEY POINTS:
A baby escaped unhurt yesterday when a stolen car being chased by police lost control and landed on another car - centimetres from the infant.
Police had pursued the stolen vehicle through South Auckland but twice abandoned the chase when they reached residential streets.
After road spikes were used to blow out a tyre the car lost control and hit the other car.
A witness told One News he heard a "bang" and investigated further. "That was probably about the biggest shock ... I saw that little baby infant in the seat of the car, in its cradle, and the car that hit it was leaning right up beside it."
Ambulance staff treated four people at the scene for minor injuries. Two men were arrested.
