The man accused of assaulting his partner's baby son who died in hospital in Auckland this week appeared in Manukau District Court this morning.
James Allan Hemana showed little emotion as he was remanded in custody until August 25 on a charge of assaulting six month old Cezar Taylor.
Cezar died in Auckland's Starship Hospital on Wednesday after suffering severe head injuries at his home in Mangere East last Friday morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Richard Wilkie said Cezar's injuries were consistent with "shaking and blunt force trauma, which is a blow to the head" and appeared to have happened over a period of time.
Police have said further charges could be laid.
