A research project into whether or not baby boomers will retire or keep working after 65 has been launched today in Auckland.
Massey University student researcher Sharon Buckland says there have been similar studies overseas. She says concerns about the burden they might have on pensions and social services, as well as the hole they leave in the workforce, may be misplaced.
Ms Buckland says many baby boomers want to keep working, but on their own terms - giving more time to leisure, travel and family.
She says this could revolutionise the workforce as employers begin to offer sabbaticals and flexible hours to retain experienced staff.
