KEY POINTS:
Two babies have been admitted to Auckland hospitals with head injuries, sparking separate police investigations in South Auckland.
The unrelated cases came to police attention after the babies were taken to different hospitals on Friday night.
Their injuries are not described as life-threatening and both infants are in a stable condition.
Counties Manukau police spokeswoman Angeline Barlow told the Herald that one case involved a 7-month-old Manurewa boy who was admitted to Middlemore Hospital. The other involved a 4-week-old girl from Papakura who was admitted to the Starship hospital.
Police could not say if the injuries were suspicious but the families involved in each case were being co-operative.
