A UK betting agency is paying New Zealand farmers to paint their sheep with the St George's Cross to provide "roadside signs of support" for the English team during the Rugby World Cup.
Betfair is paying farmers $1 (50p) for every sheep they apply the red cross to, appealing for support with the slogan "our country needs ewe".
By the time the tournament began the betting agency claimed to already have 200 sheep enlisted in the "Baa-rmy Army".
World Cup winning centre Will Greenwood launched the campaign last week, painting 10 of his own flock with the red cross of St George.
"England are in fine form going into this tournament, but what better way to give the team that little something extra than with messages of support from back home. I'm sure even the All Blacks will be left feeling a little bit sheepish by this unusual approach."
