The Wairarapa-Bush senior B rugby side made it two wins from as many matches in their regional competition when they beat Poverty Bay B 21-17 in Gisborne on Saturday
Coach Steve Thompson said the game was as close as the score would indicate with neither team gaining any real advantage in terms of territory or possession.
Poverty Bay fielded a big pack and Thompson was pleased with the way his forwards stood up to the pressure applied on them in the set pieces.
Norm Henricksen, Stu Berry and Tim Fleming were all good value in the lineouts while Tom Sargent had a lively game in the loose/
The Wairarapa-Bush backs did have some defensive lapses and their positional kicking was not always up to the required standard. The pick of them was Glen Bunny, who started at fullback and was later moved into the midfield where his solidness was a definite plus for his side.
Wairarapa-Bush B will play another unbeaten team in Wanganui B in the curtain-raiser to the Wairarapa-Bush v South Canterbury NPC third division match at Memorial Park next Saturday.
