A dairy worker was threatened by two axe-wielding robbers in Wellington today.
Police say the 59-year-old victim was working at the Broderick Dairy at the corner of Broderick Rd and Philip St in Johnsonville when, at about 12pm, two men walked into the store and threatened him with a small axe.
They took cigarettes and cash before running from the store, down a nearby street and getting into a car.
Detective Sergeant Todd said the victim was not injured during the incident, but was shaken as a result of the robbery.
"It was a brazen robbery, especially as this occurred in broad daylight with a number of people in the area."
The offenders are described as Maori or Pacific Island males, both about 20 years old. One was wearing dark-coloured clothing and the other blue clothing.
"Police are appealing for any witnesses to the robbery or any suspicious activity around the time of the incident," said Mr Todd.
"We are interested in hearing from any people who saw the two offenders run along Broderick Road or the vehicle that the offenders got into that was parked on Dr Taylor Terrace."
Anyone with information should contact Wellington CIB on (04) 496 3454 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
