A late draw change means the Cross Country Rentals Eketahuna women's rugby team play their top-of-the-table Wellington premier division match against Norths at Porirua tomorrow rather than at Eketahuna, where it was originally scheduled.
The change comes as a disappointment to Eketahuna coach Sid Tatana, who was keen to see his team take on the defending champions on home turf. But he is quick to emphasise it won't be used as an excuse for failure.
"If we go out there and play well for 80 minutes we can get the right result, no matter where the game is played," Tatana said.
Playing well against a Norths team which bases most of their play around a sizeable pack which relishes the more physical elements of the game means playing smart.
Reflecting on past clashes between the two sides, Tatana recalls Eketahuna getting sucked into playing the same type of crash-and-bash rugby as Norths.
He will be stressing the need for his team to be more astute in their option-taking this time out.
"Our forwards will be more mobile than them and we have a much better kicking game - those are the sort of things which can work for us ," he said.
"If we get into an arm-wrestle we will likely come off second best - that would be playing into their hands."
