Businesses in Avondale are without power and residents are being urged to save electricity while urgent network repairs are carried out this morning.
Power company Vector said it had to shut down power in the Rosebank Rd and Patiki Rd commercial areas so it could carry out repairs on a cable fault.
Spokeswoman Sandy Hodge said generators were being brought in but would not be available for supply until later this morning.
"Residents in the Avondale and Pt Chevalier areas are asked to reduce their electricity consumption this morning to take the electricity load off the area while repairs are made."
Ms Hodge said Vector wished to thank customers for their patience.
