For those who felt the summer did not last long enough, the good news is that they can expect a warm end to autumn, the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research's (Niwa) National Climate Centre says.
According to the centre's latest outlook, temperatures were very likely to be above the long-term average in most parts of the country over the next three months.
However, short-term cold snaps were still likely, especially as winter approached.
Below normal soil moisture levels and stream flows were expected for the April-June period in the north and east of the North Island, and in the east of the South Island, while most other regions could expect near normal or below normal soil moisture levels and stream flows.
