The Broadcasting Standards Authority has dismissed complaints by the Catholic Bishops' Conference about the comedy TV programme Popetown.
Bishop Denis Browne, on behalf of the conference, complained that three episodes screened on C4 in June and July last year breached broadcasting standards of good taste and decency, and fairness.
The authority found that the standards of good taste and decency were not breached simply because it lampooned Catholicism, and its satirical nature gave it protection against claims of unfairness.
