Elvis's burning love for firefighting has landed him in trouble with police, who fear he could be, if not the devil, then at least a fireman in disguise.
Wairarapa beneficiary Elvis Piggott is suspected of turning up at crash scenes in a fake "fire safety marshall" patrol car and posing as an officer.
Piggott was fined $230 for speeding and unlawful use of a beacon after being pulled over near Carterton.
A witness later spotted him in Ngaumutawa Rd in Masterton with lights flashing and an air horn blaring on August 19.
The 47-year-old has since removed the emergency lights and signage from his car, but he denies he is a fantasist - and is merely a collector of firefighting memorabilia.
He admits to stopping at motor vehicle accidents "but not as a fire-fighter or paramedic".
Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward and are believed to be preparing a case against him.
A fire service source in Masterton says he has been posing as an emergency services worker for nearly 10 years and has travelled as far as the South Island to live his fantasies.
Piggott says officials have it wrong: "There's history between me and the fire service."
