Australian PM to attend Christchurch memorial

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard will be part of a top-level Australian contingent at the Christchurch memorial service this Friday.

Prime Minister John Key today announced a "top-level Australian presence" including Ms Gillard, Opposition leader Tony Abbott and Governor-General Quentin Bryce would attend the service at Hagley Park.

"We are grateful for this show of solidarity with New Zealand by the leadership of Australia," Mr Key said.
