KEY POINTS:
Police in Christchurch say they fear for the safety of an Australian man who was due to fly home with his parents yesterday but has disappeared.
Mathew Norman Cameron, 26, flew into Christchurch last Thursday to be a groomsman at his brother's wedding on Saturday.
Constable Steven Johnstone, of Hornby police, said Mr Cameron was last seen near a suburban Riccarton motel, where he was staying with his parents, about 2am on Sunday. He was heading into central Christchurch along Riccarton Rd.
"The last thing he said to them was that he'd take an earlier flight home or he'd see them at the airport," Mr Johnstone told NZPA.
Mr Cameron's parents flew home yesterday, but he hasn't left the country or contacted his brother.
Mr Johnstone said Mr Cameron had no known friends or associates in Christchurch.
It was understood he'd suffered a head injury in an assault in Australia 10 months ago and suffered from depression, he said.
Mr Cameron's brother, who married a New Zealander on Saturday, was due to fly home shortly but was "running around trying to find him".
The missing man is a clean-shaven caucasian of medium build, 176cm tall with short sandy hair with a tuft at the front. He was last seen wearing a blue and yellow Parramatta football jersey with a Wallabies short-sleeved shirt underneath, and blue jeans.
