Australian and New Zealand police are taking part in a forum on Australia's Sunshine Coast today into the use of Tasers and similar weapons.
Deputy Commissioner Specialist Operations Ross Barnett said the Australasian Conducted Energy Weapon Forum was an opportunity to identify best practice in policy, training and use of Tasers - which deliver a knock-out jolt of up to 50,000 volts to a person.
One New Zealand police officer is attending the conference.
Tasers were controversially introduced to New Zealand frontline police in March an earlier trial. The United Nations Human Rights Committee has called on the Government to "relinquish" Tasers or, if they remain, to ensure they are only used when greater or lethal force is justified.
