Auckland's total fire ban will be lifted for one day only tomorrow to allow Waitangi Day hangis and barbecues.
The one-day partial lift, effective from now until midnight tomorrow, will allow cooking fires on private property including hangi, umu, pizza ovens and solid fuel barbecues.
The ban won't be lifted on open air fires or solid fuel cooking in public areas.
Principal rural fire officer Bryan Cartelle said Auckland Council would be lifting the ban on account of Waitangi Day celebrations and rainfall over the last 24 hours.
"We want people to enjoy traditional Waitangi Day celebrations and the recent rain has given us a short reprieve to allow this as long as people are responsible and considerate," he said.
