Aucklanders are being urged to do something about the fact they're the least prepared in the country for an emergency.
Today is Auckland Preparedness Day.
A number of events will look at lessons learned from recent emergencies and test how ready some communities are to cope with disaster.
Civil Defence Auckland controller Clive Manley says annual surveys show Aucklanders aren't well prepared.
"Although I think there's a good awareness of those issues that will impact them, that doesn't follow through with families having basic things like three days' supply of water and food," he says.
Mr Manley says there are simple things people can do that will make a huge difference following a disaster.
