"Now it seems to be a consistent stream of Aucklanders are making inquiries and they're actively looking at moving to the area - which is great - it's fabulous.
"I think when that happens it brings more professional people into the area and, generally speaking, it's good for the region."
Ms Hamill said it was quite common for people to talk to their friends about their move to Wairarapa, which encouraged others to move into the area.
"We always said we were a bit of a sleeping giant here. We're close to the city but we offer provincial-style living.
"There's a lot of entertainment and also in the past, especially in South Wairarapa, many have had a second home and they are looking to escape for the weekend.
"But the ones who are buying at the moment are actually coming here to live, rather than buying a second home."
Property Brokers regional manager Guy Mordaunt said it wasn't just Greytown that had seen an influx in Auckland interest, it was the whole of Wairarapa.
"Buyers always come from out of town to Wairarapa and certainly the Auckland market has increased recently," said Mr Mordaunt.
"This year, it's been on the increase. The last six months it's become more and more prevalent."
Mr Mordaunt had sold two properties to Aucklanders in the past few weeks, one in Masterton and the other in Martinborough.
"Aucklanders are scared - they don't feel like their property market is bulletproof like it once was."
He said the median house price in Auckland was $770,000 and compared with that "Wairarapa looks pretty impressive".
