KEY POINTS:
A 17-year-old is in Auckland City Hospital with serious head and facial injuries after being assaulted in Mangere early yesterday.
Detective Senior Sergeant Darrell Harpur said police were called to a party after receiving multiple calls about a group who were fighting with weapons.
Mr Harpur said it was not clear if the teenager's injuries were inflicted by anyone associated with the party.
The attack is believed to have occurred between 1.45am and 2.15am.
