A North Shore primary schoolboy has taken top honours in a global mathematics contest.
Mason Forbes, 10, from the Sherwood Primary School in Browns Bay, was the top student in the eight to 10-year-old category of the 2011 World Maths Day - a 48-hour challenge in which students compete against others around the world.
Students spent much of the last two days challenging students internationally in quick-fire, 60-second online maths games, hosted by 3P Learning, a tuition company.
More than 2.4 million students from 234 countries participated in the online World Maths Day, correctly answering more than 428 million questions in 60-second challenges over the 48 hours.
New Zealand finished fifth-equal with Hong Kong in the medal tally behind Malaysia, United Kingdom, Pakistan and Australia.
