School pupils are advised by police to walk to school with friends or family after a student was intimidated by a man offering a ride to school.
Police were called by staff at Western Springs College in Auckland yesterday, after a student reported being intimidated by an Indian man driving a white car who suggested she get into his vehicle to get a ride to school.
The incident happened on Ivanhoe Road in Grey Lynn and the man followed the student in his car for a short distance, police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said.
"Police have spoken with the young woman and her parents along with staff at Western Springs College and advise all school pupils, whichever school they're attending, to walk to and from school with friends or family where possible," she said.
"Police also encourage anyone who encounters this type of situation or who feels threatened in any way, to call 111 immediately as any delay in advising police reduces our opportunities to locate those involved."
