Auckland Round the Bays results confirmed

Jonathon Jackson has clinched the Ports of Auckland Round the Bays race in a sub 30 minute effort.

More than 30,000 runners laced up to pound the pavement at Round the Bays this morning.

Jackson claimed the top prize with a time of 27.06 minutes, followed by Dave Ridley, 27.15m, and Tom Moyes with a time of 27.22m.

Olivia Burne was the winner of the female class, and eleventh overall, with a time of 29.08m, ahead of her runner up Juliette Foley, 32.38m.

The race started at 9.30am and the 8.4km flat course kicked off in the Auckland CBD and finished at St Heliers Bay.

Among the runners was 90-year-old Russell Parrish and professional athlete Brittnea Chambers who has bowel cancer. Chambers was running with her chemo pump to raise money and raise awareness of the disease.

The forecast looked good for participants but the king tide, expected at 10am, caused concerns of flooding on Tamaki Drive.

The Round the Bays race wasn't the only attraction drawing people down to Auckland's waterfront as the Volvo Ocean Race was also underway after kicking off in February.

The viaduct is functioning as a race village for the stopover with the Viaduct Events Centre acting as race head quarters.

The first race, The New Zealand Herald In Port Race, is planned for March 10.
