Auckland City Council is asking rate payers to fork out an extra $82 a year each.
Its Finance Committee has set the council's budget for the year ending July 2009.pepeCommittee Chairman Douglas Armstrong says rates will increase by 5.1 per cent which will be applied as a uniform annual charge.
There will also be an additional 5.1 increase in water charges, which he believes is reasonable.
