Auckland power blackout hits 1000

About 1000 Auckland consumers were left in the dark last night after a power cut in the Herne Bay and Freemans Bay area of the city.

Vector spokeswoman Philippa White said it was believed the outage - which happened about 7.10pm - was caused by a cable fault in the underground network. Power was restored throughout the evening.
