Auckland police raid homes for stolen property

A 15-year-old Auckland girl has been referred to youth aid following dawn police raids this morning.

Officers were investigating a Saturday morning robbery during which thousands of dollars of electronics, cash and jewellery was allegedly taken.

The victims were surprised when photos taken on a stolen camera began to appear in their online cloud storage Dropbox account.

Nigel Trounson said he and his wife were asleep at their Mangere Bridge home in the early hours of Saturday morning when the robbery is alleged to have occurred.

Among the stolen property was a rare Samsung Galaxy camera that was set to automatically upload photos as they were taken - and on Saturday afternoon, that's exactly what they did.

"There are about 80 photos," he said. "Photos of them at the park, getting their hair done - I can see my things in the background of the photos."

After posting the photos to community Facebook pages, young teens were identified as potential culprits and allegedly posted comments taunting their victims.

"F** yuhr crack uhp, yuh can't catch me [sic]," said one of the teens.

Trounson replied: "Your brother will do."

To which the teen wrote: "Oh my brother wasn't part of it, juhs me & someone else [sic]."

Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin McNaughton said early this morning police executed search warrants and inquiries at addresses in the Mangere area.

"Following this morning's warrants police have now recovered a number of stolen items, including a tablet, cell phone and camera. We are in the process of returning these items to the victims."
