A man has died after being hit by a vehicle in Auckland this morning, but police don't yet know how he came to be lying on the road.
A driver called police about 2.45am to tell them he had hit a man who had been lying on Mt Eden Road, Inspector Cornell Kluessien of police northern communications said.
"We don't know how the person came to be on the road _ we don't know whether he was hit by another car, or whether he collapsed in the middle of the road or what,'' he told APNZ.
"The driver said the person was already lying there when he hit him.''
The serious crash unit has carried out a scene examination and police were investigating.
