A 30-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man found dead at a boarding house in the Auckland suburb of Mount Eden over the weekend.
John Patrick Chambers, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was found at the Eden Park Lodge in Dominion Rd, Mt Eden, early on Saturday morning.
A post-mortem examination yesterday revealed Mr Chambers died from a single stab wound to the chest.
The Mt Eden man accused of his murder was granted name suppression when he appeared in Auckland District Court this morning. He was remanded in custody to reappear on October 4.
A 33-year-old Snells Beach woman, whose name is suppressed, also appeared in the court charged with being an accessory after the fact for helping the man avoid arrest. She was remanded in custody until September 20, when a bail application is expected to be made.
Mr Chambers did not live at the boarding house, where his body was found. Police did not know where he lived.
A scene examination was continuing, as were interviews with boarding house residents.
