Auckland's mayor on a fact finding trip to China.

Len Brown will be looking at advanced tunnelling technologies and major transport projects.

He says Auckland has identified two significant underground projects - the city rail link and an additional harbour crossing.

He says these projects will be a significant financial investment, and it's important to be fully aware of the latest technology and options.

Mr Brown says China is a world leader in tunnelling technology, and it's developing new approaches to building urban tunnels which could save millions of dollars on major transport projects.
