Police are investigating the death of a 22-year-old Auckland man found lying on the grass at Tauranga's Carlton Street Reserve yesterday morning.
The man has been identified as Hamish Marsden, Acting Senior Sergeant Rob Lemoto from Tauranga police said.
An initial scene examination and investigation has been completed but it appeared there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Marsden's death, he said.
A resident contacted police when he noticed Mr Marsden lying under the stands near the softball park at 9.30am.
It appeared the young man had been lying at the park overnight, Mr Lemoto said.
The matter had been referred to the Coroner but police still wanted to hear from anyone who may have seen any activity in the reserve overnight on Saturday.
