The hit and run driver who knocked down a woman in Auckland early today may be in shock and acting strangely say police.
Police repeated their appeal for the driver to call them as the woman was treated for serious injuries in Auckland Hospital.
She was knocked down at the intersection of New North and Mt Albert Roads just before 3am, by a black Toyota Levin with mag wheels and possibly damaged on the front.
Inspector Gavin MacDonald from the police Northern Communications Centre in Auckland, said hit and run drivers often went into shock.
"The best thing for them to do is to contact police, just ring 111 and ask to speak to myself or the shift manager."
The driver did not stop to help the woman and sped off towards Avondale.
