Auckland firefighters are to join Ports of Auckland workers on their picket line today.
The Auckland president of the NZ Professional Firefighters Union, Mike McEnaney, said firefighters want to show their support and solidarity for the 327 maritime union members who are pursuing a new collective employment agreement.
The port workers are in their final day of industrial action, which has been a combination of strikes and lockouts.
Mr McEnaney said firefighters themselves have an employer who is not prepared to settle a contract on a collective basis, so are aware of what the port workers are going through.
"Clearly if employers are unwilling to settle fair and reasonable contracts then it is evident that there is a need for other workers to get in behind and show their support and that is the intention of the Auckland firefighters," said McEnaney
