KEY POINTS:
Firefighters were today battling a blaze at a factory on Auckland's North Shore, while police were urging motorists to avoid the area because of traffic congestion.
The Fire Service was alerted at 10.50am to the incident and a spokesman said 12 appliances were at the scene.
A police spokesman said everyone had been evacuated from the two-storey building, which was at the intersection of Kahika Rd, Birkdale Rd and Beach Haven Rd.
There was considerable traffic congestion in the area and diversions were in place to keep vehicles away.
