KEY POINTS:
An Auckland doctor has been suspended by two medical authorities in relation to his allegedly prescribing around 50000 tablets that can be used to make the illegal drug methamphemine.
Doctor Rhys Cullen today failed to persuade the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal to lift its interim suspension, which it had imposed on March 29, without first notifying him.
The Tribunal had acted on the application of a Medical Council Professional Misconduct Committee, which argued suspension was necessary to protect public health and safety.
Separately, the Council suspended Doctor Cullen 's practising certificate from April 17.
Doctor Cullen has been under police investigation over the high levels of prescriptions he has written for Sudomyl tablets since 2004.
He has not been charged with criminal offences.
The Conduct Committee, however, has formerly accused him of professional misconduct, but no date has been set fore the hearing of that charge.
