The Auckland District Law Society is supporting the vetting of jurors.
Nai Yin Xue goes on trial next month accused of murdering his wife and abandoning his child. His legal team has applied for legal aid to research jurors.
Auckland District Law Society president Anna Fitzgibbon says information about potential jurors is sparse with only name, address and occupation being given, but the Supreme Court is now allowing more investigation of jurors, as is done in the United States, to ensure a fair trial.
She says the defence has a very short time to decide whether people should be on the jury.
