Smoke is coming out of the ears of a pro-legalisation of marijuana group after a complaint to police resulted in a full property raid.
NORML says it asked police to help it deal with gang threats, but when officers came to their Auckland clubhouse, the Daktory, they threatened to kick the door down, and then spent eight hours raiding the property.
President Julian Crawford is laying an Independent Police Conduct Authority Complaint, saying the group no longer feels safe calling the police when there is a gang threat.
He says it has been an open secret cannabis can be obtained and consumed at the Daktory, and police have known this for three years.
Mr Crawford claims police have even described the club as a "safe-haven" for cannabis users.
