Auckland child killed in Southland driveway incident

An Auckland toddler died after being struck by a vehicle in a Southland driveway, police have confirmed.

Tahi Henderson was just 18 months old. He died after being struck by a vehicle in Oakland St in Mataura about 4.50pm on December 21.

After the incident Mataura Community Board member Steve Dixon said people were upset by the news.

"People are pretty gutted, because the family is well known in town."

Gore District Council Mataura ward councillor Neville Phillips said Mataura was a tight-knit community, and the victim's family was well known.

Police extended their sympathies to his family and friends.
