Auckland campground's days seem numbered

It seems the days of the Takapuna Beach Holiday Park on the North Shore of Auckland are numbered.

A six-person panel spent nearly three hours last night debating its fate and that of the surrounding reserve, where a high performance yachting centre and offices are planned.

The owner of the campground stormed out, saying one of the panellists against the park was talking rubbish.

Stephanie Knight, who lives opposite the park, says the campground is one-of-a-kind.

"You only have to live around it as I do, there is never any noise, there is never any loud music, there are no problems.

"It's delightful."

All of the panellists, apart from Devonport-Takapuna Local Board member Jan O'Connor, were against renewing the park's lease.

The panel will now make recommendations to the board, which will make the final decision.
