One high school student was taken to hospital after a head-on crash between a school bus and a van in central Auckland this afternoon.
The Ritchies bus, carrying 34 high school students, collided with an Auckland Plumbers van at around 1pm near the intersection of Karangahape Road and Queen Street.
One of the students received minor injuries that were dealt with at the scene but was taken to Auckland Hospital for observation, said police.
The two plumbers who were travelling in the van towards Symonds St were uninjured and told nzherald.co.nz the bus was at fault in the crash.
Police wouldn't comment on the cause of the accident, saying the Serious Crash Unit was still investigating.
Traffic was diverted via City Street but the diversion is no longer in place, said police.
The accident was the second school bus to crash today. On State Highway 26 in the eastern Waikato, a school bus carrying 36 children crashed into a ditch this morning, the second time the bus had left the road during the journey.
