Auckland apartment fire sparks evacuations

A kitchen fire in a central Auckland apartment sparked a big response from fire crews this morning.

At least five appliances rushed to the Durham Lane scene but the fire was quickly extinguished.

Residents of nearby apartments and businesses on High St and Queen St were evacuated while the fire was brought under control.

A fire communications spokesman told nzherald.co.nz that firefighters were now ventilating the apartment.
