KEY POINTS:
A false alarm at Auckland Airport's domestic terminal led to the evacuation of hundreds of people this morning.
An automated voice told passengers and staff to leave, saying: "Attention please, attention please, due to an emergency it is necessary to evacuate the building."
George Bolt Memorial Drive - leading to the airport - was blocked and pilots, flight attendants and school groups were seen standing outside the terminal building.
At three fire engines were called out but firefighters have since been stood down.
A Fire Service spokesman said the evacuation had been due to "a false alarm".
Auckland Airport confirmed it was a false alarm but could not give further details of what had prompted the evacuation.
A spokesperson said everyone was back inside the terminal and there had been minimal disruption to flights.
