KEY POINTS:
Part of Auckland Airport was evacuated last night after a member of the public reported smelling smoke. The ground and first floors of the international terminal were cleared about 10.20pm while the fire service checked out the source. "After about 40 minutes the fire service deemed it safe for the public to re-enter," Auckland Airport communications manager Richard Llewellyn said.
Flights had not been affected. "Obviously, operations stopped for about 40 minutes. At that time of night there were not too many flights arriving or taking off."
