An inner-city tavern was the target of an attempted armed robbery last night.
Police received a report of four people entering the Strand Tavern at about 11.20pm, an Auckland District police spokeswoman said.
One of the offenders had a firearm, but police believed the entire group fled with nothing after an alarm in the building at the bottom of Parnell Rise was activated.
The incident was believed to be an isolated one, as there were no reports of any other similar attempted armed robberies in the city last night.
A Strand employee said the incident was under investigation and declined to comment further.
