A would-be robber fled empty-handed after an attempted aggravated robbery at a Wellington Post Shop today.
A staff member at the Khandallah Post Shop was threatened, though he was not physically injured during the incident.
Detective Sergeant Martin Todd said that about 12.45pm, the 56-year-old victim was working in the Ganges Road shop when a man walked into the store.
"The male walked towards the store employee who was behind the counter," Mr Todd said.
"The victim was threatened and cash was demanded. The employee spoke to the male who then left the store empty handed."
He said the incident was captured on CCTV footage and police hoped the public could assist in identifying the person involved.
The offender was described as part-Maori, about 20 years old, around 1.75m tall, and of medium build, with stubble on his face. He wore a black baseball-style cap, sunglasses, a purple and black long-sleeved dress shirt with vertical pin stripes and black trousers. He carried a black over the shoulder bag with him.
"Police are appealing for any witnesses to the robbery or anyone who recognised the offender's description," Mr Todd said.
He was "fairly confident" that the offender was not either of the two people involved in yesterday's aggravated robbery of the Broderick Road Dairy in the suburb of Johnsonville.
In that incident robbers, one armed with an axe, made off with cigarettes and cash after threatening a worker.
