It is miraculous a driver who crashed into three parked cars before crossing four lanes of State Highway One, driving through trees and onto a railway track is not injured, police say.
Kapiti Police have charged a 59-year-old man with excess breath alcohol after he was found still inside the vehicle at a railway station platform in Waikanae.
"From our inquiries it appears the driver has crashed into three parked vehicles in the Waikanae Hotel carpark, before crossing four lanes of State Highway One, driving through trees and onto the railway tracks, where he's continued north before coming to stop at the railway station platform." Sergeant Mike George said.
The man's breath alcohol reading was over the limit and he faces one charge of excess breath alcohol, with further charges likely.
It was miraculous he did not injure himself or anyone else in the incident, Mr George said.
