A woman was knocked unconscious and indecently assaulted while walking near Waikato Hospital in Hamilton yesterday.
Police have praised the actions of three passers-by who saw the incident and chased off the offender.
The woman was walking in an area of reserve land opposite Gate One of Waikato Hospital about 5.10pm, Detective Sergeant Nick O'Brien of Hamilton CIB said.
"The land is by the Ohaupo Rd-Pembroke St intersection and it appears our 25-year-old victim has been walking when she was struck from behind by an attacker and knocked to the ground," he said.
"Our victim has come to and become aware of a male on top of her indecently assaulting her. Three women passing by noticed something amiss and chased off the offender [who] fled on what was described as a white push-bike."
